5 Questions with...
Writer Frank Martin

1) On what project are you currently working?

I'm currently wrapping up the second volume of my anthology series "Modern Testament" set for release in May from Insane Comics. Each installment consists of three standalone tales about biblical beings in our modern world. I plan on releasing four volumes in the series, so production is well underway on number three.

2) Whom in your field do you admire most and why?

There are so many great (and relatable) comic writers out there. But I would say one I have always admired has been Brian Michael Bendis. "Ultimate Spider-Man" was the book that really hooked me into reading comics full time, and I've enjoyed watching his work as a driving force behind Marvel's universe these last 15 years. He also continues to pound out great book after great book with a wide range of characters. Truly a pleasure to read.

3) How did you get into the comic book field?

Well, I'm a prose fiction writer and have always enjoyed reading comics. So about 10 years ago I took a comic writing class just for fun. What came of it was a short story about an angel. The script sat on my computer forever until I finally became determined enough to see it made. Rather than just have a single comic, though, I added two more shorts about other biblical beings. And so, "Modern Testament" was born.

4) On which title would you most like to work and why?

The comic industry is filled with so many rich and diverse characters. Each with amazing history. But I'm a big fan of taking characters that are often left out of the spotlight and giving them a chance to shine. I would love to develop a series based around Marvel's "Man-Thing." He (it) is such an underestimated and misunderstood character with immense power. I feel I could have a lot of fun putting him at the center of the Marvel universe where he can finally get the respect he deserves.

5) On what project will you be working next?

I have a bunch of ideas in the early development stages with several different artists. But the one in which my writing duties are complete is a six issue mini-series titled "Quantum's World." The story is about a boy who is invited to a parallel dimension where he is a superhero. Issue one is currently being penciled and colored, so I would hope to see the series available next year.
