Violent Love (2016 Image) #1

Writer Frank J. Barbiere and artist Victor Santos know how to capture the reader's attention and run with it.

This issue serves as the origin story of Daisy Jane, the woman in this Bonnie and Clyde kind of story. Her accomplice, Rock Bradley, is only shown in a wanted bulletin.

The story starts in 1987 Texas and flashes back to 1969 California as the narrator explains to a young girl how Daisy Jane had a dead end job as a waitress in a diner.

Daisy also discovers something dark about her father, a mechanic who has a criminal relationship with the aptly named Johnny Nails (read it and you'll see why).

This issue leaves the reader uneasy but greatly anticipating the next one.

If the creative team keeps this up, they could be regarded with the same fondness and respect as noir kings Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.

This series is intriguing, fun, and definitely one to watch!
